EsterGreat News. Ester has successfully completed her Certificate in Early Childhood Education at Mwanza Polytechnic and is now eligible to continue her studies on the Diploma course.

A Gift from Scotland

The children at Mayega New Peace Dropping Centre were delighted to receive a gift of a DVD player. This runs on solar power as there is no mains electricity at the village of Mayega. The hope is that exposure to films and other programmes in English, will encourage the children to speak in English.

BUSEGA SCOTLAND APPOINTS ITS TANZANIAN PROJECT LEADER

Busega Scotland is delighted to announce the appointment of its first Project Leader in Mwanza. Rev Gadlord Deuli has been assisting with Busega Scotland projects on a more informal basis over the last 15 months and his help has proved to be essential in progressing work on the ground. Rev Deuli is a pastor in the Charismatic Episcopal Church of Tanzania and has established his own non-governmental organisation (NGO) called HEPOAA-TZ. His local knowledge, accountancy background, NGO and Busega Scotland experience are vital in developing our projects further. Karibu Rev Deuli!!

12.6.15 Women’s Health Insurance Scheme

FAMILY SUPPORT PROJECT GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Women's self help group Igombe June 2015

Women’s self help group
Igombe June 2015

The Family Support Project in Igombe has moved into the second and third phases of operation under the guidance of its local steering group. Twenty two women have received business start-up grants so far, with the capacity for at least another twelve. A self-help group for the women recipients has also been started. The group will concentrate on a Vicoba (Credit Union), establishing a co-operative business (probably producing and selling fortified flour) and a health promotion course, delivered by local medical students. In addition, the FSP families are now covered for a year by a health insurance scheme, negotiated by Busega Scotland with Karume Hospital in Igombe. Free health care will be provided, with the option for families to continue their cover, if the scheme is successful.

Construction project 14.5.15

Work is in progress installing the solar system and ceiling in the new building. Modifications are also being made to the solar system in the dormitory. Lower wattage lights are being installed to allow the power to last longer ,including switching the current to DC rather than AC. One socket is being left on A/C to charge mobile phones. These are vital for keeping in touch with staff.

Hassan has new glasses 21.3.15

Hassan is very happy to receive new glasses thanks to the help of a donor in Buckie.  Hassan lives at the New Peace Mayega Children’s Centre.  He has been treated for numerous eye problems over the last six years but was recently  referred to a regional centre where it was decided he needed glasses and eye drops. A donation of £50 enabled him to travel with a member of staff for his appointments and get the help he needed. Sadly many children in Tanzania fail to get proper eye care and their development is held back.

21.3.15 A trip to Lamadi to buy sports shoes

Thank you to the Anglican Church in Basle for providing the money to buy trainers for the children and young people at Mayega. On Saturday 21.3.15  the children travelled by dala dala to Lamadi with the Children’s Centre staff Leah and Peter , as well as  Rev Deuli. They were able to try on and choose their shoes. This is a rare event for the kids.
