The groups form VICOBAs (village community banks) and Busega Scotland provides capital. Women take interest-bearing loans to grow their small businesses. Eight groups are now independent and three new ones started this calendar year. About 350 women have been involved since the project started. It has worked in three locations.

Mayega Children’s Centre – is home to twenty-one vulnerable children and young people.

Further educational progress has been made with a young person passing her Form 4 examinations and moving onto A level. Two other children passed Standard 7 examinations and will proceed to secondary school.

Significant staffing improvements have been made this year with a qualified social worker being appointed as officer-in-charge and a second security guard is now in post.

Busega Scotland funds a teacher shared between the Mayega Centre and local primary school.

Moving-on Project – the aim of the project is to support the transition from care to independence and employment for young people leaving Mayega Children’s Centre.

Two young people completed their certificate courses successfully and are now employed as an electrician and a welder.
